Sienna framed in Locust blossoms

December 20, 2023

She liked to stand just there—right where the blossoms framed her like she meant to be seen.

Sienna never asked for attention, but she didn’t avoid it either. She simply existed on her own terms, as if the world could take note or not—it made no difference to her. The first time you met her, that independence felt almost like distance. A rescued mustang, they said, with miles behind her and stories she wasn’t offering to share.

You believed them.

Back then, you were new to all of it—the rhythms, the quiet language, the patience horses require. You expected something more obvious: affection, obedience, some clear sign you were doing things right. But Sienna wasn’t built that way. She watched. She waited. She decided.

And somehow, over time, that became enough.

Under the locust tree, with its soft purple blooms hanging like clusters of memory, she seemed almost at ease with being part of something. The blossoms filtered the sunlight into shifting patterns across her back, and for a moment, she didn’t look like a horse shaped by past uncertainty. She looked… settled.

Not owned. Not changed.

Just settled.

Mr. Bean would wander nearby, curious as ever, his easy nature filling the spaces Sienna left quiet. And Stuart—the donkey with his steady, knowing presence—kept a watchful eye on everything, as if he’d appointed himself the keeper of balance in your little, learning world.

You were all figuring it out together.

There were missteps, of course. Days when Sienna reminded you, firmly, that trust wasn’t something you could rush or assume. But there were also moments like this—unspoken, unforced—where the distance softened just enough to feel like connection.

She stood beneath the blossoms, framed by something fleeting and beautiful, and allowed you to witness her.

Not as a project. Not as a rescue.

But as herself.

And for a newbie trying to understand what that meant, it felt like more than enough.
